Ecosystems Restoration, Kelp Reforestation
Education: West Coast University – BSME, BSEE, 1973 Orange Coast College, and online classes Basic Marine Biology 1, 2, 1974 Study Marine Biology and Kelp Propagation under Dr. Wheeler North 1974 – 1976, explore methods of Sporing Kelp (Macrosyses Perurifia) and transplanting. Kelp Sporing Technology and processes – Lydia Ladah 1978 Co-Founder of Coastal Marine Technology, 1978 Acting advisor AFI/CMBI organization Created a laboratory where methods ere explored for sporing kelp on different types of substrate and transferring the plants to ocean beds. Received a grant from Algalita Marine Research Foundation (SMRF) to develop kelp beds on the Long Beach Breakwater, expanded grant to also cover starting a Kelp bed at Little Corona at Corona Delmar. We also developed a process for onsite sporing which eliminated the whole laboratory process and improved efficiency of transplanting a new Kelp bed could now be developed in 3 to 5 months not 1 to 3 years. Kelp beds were also developed at Pelican Point, Whistler’s Reef, Dead Man’s Reef, most are still active beds.
